And now you need to get better at it
Care to disagree about being a marketer?
Okay, I’ll entertain that for a moment.
A marketer (according to the smartest person on this topic I know) is someone who:
- help others become who they seek to become
I think that describes the essence of coaching, don’t you?
That’s what you help athletes to do—become who they seek to become. And athletic departments. Or the county recreational office that hired you.
I know…you don’t want to think of yourself as a marketer, or have others think of you as one.
That’s likely due to the old image of a marketer. Someone who makes noise and yells and interrupts—attempting to make a sale.
That’s the old model. It doesn’t work today.
The work you do does matter, Coach, for the people who care. You need to find those people.
That’s what a marketer does.
